Steve Jaeyoun Kim

Steve Jaeyoun Kim is a founding partner at Novick, Kim and Lee, PLLC. Mr. Kim’s practice includes strategic patent prosecution, client counseling, due diligence and freedom-to-operate investigations, patent opinion work with respect to validity and infringement of patents, technology transfers and IP licensing agreements. Based on his extensive experience in reexamination proceedings, Mr. Kim practices in IPR, PGR and CBM proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Mr. Kim is technically focused on the mechanical and electrical art and business methods. Mr. Kim obtained his J.D. cum laude from Handong International Law School in Korea. He authored a paper comparing Korean and American patent laws and wrote two textbooks that were published for the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

He completed his Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property Law at The George Washington University Law School.

His master research paper dealt with “Debate on the First-to-File and the First-to-Invent Patent Systems.”

He has experience for eight years as a manufacturing process engineer and as an overseas service operation manager with Hyundai-Motor Company.

He served as the president of Korean American Intellectual Property Bar Association (KAIPBA), and he is an adjunct professor at KAIST and teaches US patent law and practices in the MIP (Master’s in IP) program.
